In April 2026, the short story collection Grandmothers and Granddaughters (Creative Women Publishing) will be published, featuring the novella “God’s Little Creatures” by Bukovinian author Taisiia Nakonechna.

Taisiia was born in the Chernivtsi region, and her story is written in a dialect that blends Bukovinian and Podilian linguistic features — specifically, the Northern Bessarabian dialect of the village Kruhlik (Dnistrovskyi district). For the author, it is essential not only to preserve but also to bring visibility to living regional language as an integral part of cultural heritage that often remains outside the public space.

“God’s Little Creatures” is one of Taisiia’s most personal works, dedicated to the memory of her grandmother Hanna. It is a story about generational connection, feminine continuity, love, and the language through which these feelings are passed within a family. The dialect here is not decorative — it functions as a carrier of memory and regional identity.

The collection Grandmothers and Granddaughters brings together 32 women writers from different regions of Ukraine and is conceived as a literary map of living dialects. For this reason, academic editors and dialectologists were involved to ensure that each text accurately represents its linguistic territory.
